Balancing school, work, and a social life is no easy task. Throw in a regular workout routine, and it sounds overwhelming. But Umairah, Lab’s social media marketing intern and full-time Arts Management student, has found a rhythm that works for her. For her, it’s all about the connections she’s built within the Lab community.

“For those 55 to 60 minutes, the only thing that matters is my time on the mat. No distractions—just me and the class I picked for the day,” she says.

From her very first Barre class 1.5 years ago, she was hooked. “I loved how it challenged me without being overwhelming—it felt like the perfect mix of strength, grace, and focus,” she shares. Barre quickly became her go-to workout and, over time, a constant in her busy life. “No matter how I’m feeling when I walk into the studio, I always leave feeling accomplished. It’s like my reset button.”

Recently, she’s added yoga to her routine, discovering that it brings a different kind of balance to her life. “Yoga has helped me feel more grounded and kinder to myself,” Umairah says. “It’s taught me to slow down and just enjoy the process.”

The instructors at Lab have been a big part of her journey. “The teachers make you feel seen and supported, no matter where you are in your practice. It’s not just about the workout—it’s about building a connection,” Umairah says.

Between managing Lab’s social media, lectures, and assignments, Umairah’s schedule gets hectic. That’s why her time at the studio is essential. “Lab has become my little escape—a space to breathe, recharge, and leave feeling lighter and stronger,” she says.

Being part of the Lab team has deepened her appreciation for the community even more. Seeing how the studio brings people together and creates a safe environment is one of the best parts of her job.

“Some days are tough, but knowing I have this space to come back to makes all the difference. It’s a reminder to take care of myself so I can show up for everything else in my life.”
